Clayton County Register, Thur., 2 May 1935.

John Brust, son of Jacob and his wife, Regina, nee Jaeger, was born June 4, 1864, at Communia, Iowa, and died at his Elkader home on Friday evening, April 26. The deceased reached the age of 70 years, 10 months and 22 days.

On Nov. 24, 1891, he was united in marriage to Angeline Harms. The young couple spent a year on a farm in Communia and then moved to Norfork, Nebr., and from there to LeMars, Iowa, where they remained for a period of two years. In the year 1895 they returned to this community and bought a farm in Boardman township, on which they lived for 19 years. For the past 17 years they have made their home in Elkader.

Mr. Brust had been in failing health for a number of years. During the past winter he was confined to his bed for about three months, but for the last two months was able to be up and around the house, and appeared to be regaining his strength until a few days before his death, when he was taken suddenly ill again.

Mr. Brust was a home-loving man, a faithful husband, and a good neighbor. The deceased was baptized and was a member of the Friedens Evangelical church. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, one brother, Henry, of Elkader; two sisters, Kate Herwig of West Union, and Clara Harms, of Montana. Also a large number of nieces and nephews survive him, and other relatives and many friends.

Services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, and from the Evangelical church at 2 o'clock, with burial in the East Side cemetery. Services were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. P. Kitterer.
