Marie S. Ihde was born in Read township, Clayton county, on September 6, 1862.

Her parents were Joachim and Elizabeth Palm. She was confirmed by Rev. Seifert in Zion's Lutheran church at Clayton Centre. On February 14, 1884, she was married to Henry Luehsen, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Sommerlad. The young couple began housekeeping in the old Luehsen homestead in Garnavillo. One son was born to this union, Marvin, who married Georgina Schulte, now Mrs. Max Weber of Milwaukee. Gertrude Mary Luehsen, the only grandchild, preceded her in death in 191_ (looks like 6 or 8), as did the son, Marvin, in 1915. On May 29, 1922, Mr. Luehsen died.

Mrs. Luehsen served as deputy postmistress for seventeen years and was chief operator of the Standard Telephone company for a great many years.

Mrs. Luehsen was an invalid for several years and bore her sufferings with great patience and during the last six weeks of her illness she was faithfully cared for by Theodore Berns and Helen Behrns of Guttenberg and Mrs. Elsie Wellman of McGregor.

She died Friday morning at 3:55 at the age of 72 years, seven months, and twelve days.

She was a member of the Frauen Verein, an organization of her church. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Minnie Nobbman, of Lincoln, Neb., and a brother, William Ihde, of Garnavillo and numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at St. Paul's church in Garnavillo by Rev. M. J. Harder, Monday afternoon and interment made at the Garnavillo cemetery.

The out of town people who attended the funeral were Mrs. Char. Nobbman and Mrs. Mary Dittmer, Mrs. Clara Fullgrabbe, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Nobbman of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Minnie Laxon and Miss Ora Laxon of Carlville, Iowa, Mrs. Joe Born, Mrs. Cora Wiegand, Miss Mary O'Neil and Jay Wiegand of Dubuque, Mrs. Kate Schroeder, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wolf of Elkader, Mr. and Mrs. L. Casten of Postville, Mr. and Mrs. John Thorson of Calmar, Iowa.
