Thursday, 11 November 1920, Guttenberg Press, p1, c4:

Another Pioneer Called By Death.

On last Saturday evening, November 6, 1920, at six o’clock, at the home of her son, Herman Duwe, in Jefferson township occurred the death of Mrs. Louis Duwe, another one of Clayton County’s pioneer residents, the cause of her death being mostly due to old age. Deceased was born in Germany on December 4, 1838, and therefore was 81 years, 11 months and 2 days of age at the time of her death. In the year 1853 she came to America, at once settling in this community, where she spent the remainder of her life. She was married at Guttenberg, Iowa, in the year 1857 to Mr. Henry Duwe, who preceded her in death on November 6, 1896. The greater part of her life was spent on the farm in Jefferson township. She was a true christian woman in every respect, always ready with heart and hand to help those in need, which won her many friends during her life, and by whom she will be remembered. She was an ambitious woman during her entire life and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. She was also a kind and loving mother, and her death is deeply mourned by six sons, Herman and Fritz Duwe, of Jefferson township, August Duwe, of Guttenberg, William Duwe, of Postville, Henry Duwe, of Monona and John Duwe, of Ossian, one daughter, Mrs. H. F. Fischer, of Manning, Iowa, a number of grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Henry Fischer, of Guttenberg, one brother, Wm. Duwe, of Clayton, and many other relatives and friends, by whom she will be sadly missed. Funeral services were held at the Ceres church on last Tuesday, Rev. Bunge, of Garnavillo, officiating. Interment was made in the Ceres cemetery. The funeral was largely attended.
