Clayton County Register, Thur., 28 Mar. 1935.
Bertha, daughter of Albert and Louisa Frederick, was born in the state of Wisconsin, June 20, 1851, and departed this life at her home near Volga, March 24, 1935, at the age of 83 years, nine months and four days.
When four years of age she came with her parents to Wagner township, Clayton county, Iowa, where the pioneer home was founded on land secured from the government of the United States.
Here she spent the days of her childhood and young womanhood until her marriage to John Franklin Fallon in the year 1870. To this happy union were born seven children, three of whom died in infancy.
In 1873 the young couple emigrated to Kansas, where they made their home for two years and where their oldest son, Orrin, was born.
Returning to Iowa in 1875 they made their home near Mederville until 1892, when they came to the Volga vicinity which has since been her home.
Mrs. Fallon, with her husband, united with the Christian church in 1893, later transferring her membership to the local Methodist church.
She is survived by two sons, Orrin S. and John F., of Volga, and two daughters, Mrs. Elma Tschantz and Mrs. Emma Hall, of Wadena, also one sister, Mrs. Sarah Kunch of Earlham, Ia., twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Fallon was one of the pioneer mothers whose labors and sacrifices have meant so much to the present generations, and who are fast passing on the reward of their labors. Always of a cheerful and kindly disposition, she had many friends and was ever ready to answer the call for help in times of sickness and distress, and many will remember the kindly humor and soothing hand of "Grandma" Fallon. So after months of suffering we say "Goodbye" to her, confident that she may receive her Master's "Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of Thy Lord."
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church here. The Rev. A. B. Chamberlin of Arlington officiated at the services. Interment was made in Hill Crest cemetery.
The casket was born by W. E. Ewing, James Jellings, Logan Wilson, Henry Jennings, Frank Oldfather and Will Hoskyns.
