Torkel Nelson died January 29, at one o'clock p.m. at the home of his son, Nels Nelson, in Wagner township. His death was caused by bronchial pleurisy. The deceased was born in Numedal, Norway on the 5th day of April, 1854. At the age of seven years he came to this country. His father died while on the ocean. Together with his mother he came to Blooming Prairie, Minn., where they lived for a few years until moving to Clayton county to his present home, where he lived all the time with the exception of the last year while he has been staying with his son, Nels. On January 24, 1889 he was united in marriage to Allie Erickson of Marion township. He is survived by seven children, four sons and three daughters. One daughter, Tilla, preceded him in death on May 13, 1932. The children living are: Mrs. Mary T. Johnson of Mederville; Nellie at home; Mrs. Evelyn Nydeggar of Elgin; Nels, Edwin, Gilman, and Lawrence at home. Four grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Torkel Rierson, also survive. Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 1, at the Norway church, the Rev. S. J. Strandjord of St. Olaf officiating.
