Mrs. Louisa Groth, native resident of Jefferson township and a lifelong resident of the community, died Sunday, February 17, following a long period of failing health. She was 81 years old.
The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from St. Paul's Lutheran church in charge of Rev. J.F. Esrbaugh, pastor. Burial was in the Guttenberg City cemetery in charge of the Beerman funeral service with six grandsons acting as pallbearers, Howard, Ernest, George, Donald and Clarence Groth, and Wilson Barnhart.
Mrs. Groth was born October 11, 1864, in Jefferson township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gottfried Seeman. On September 18, 1880, she was married to Fred Groth and they were the parents of six children, two of whom preceded their mother in death.
Surviving Mrs. Groth are four children, three sons, Fred of Guttenberg, James of Elkport and William of Guttenberg, and one daughter, Mrs. Clyde Barnhart of Colesburg.
Also surviving are two half-sisters, Mrs. Gusta White of Greeley and Mrs. Emma Patrick of Elkader, as well as 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Mr. Groth, who died in August of 1914, her two sons, John and Charles, a brother, Gustav Seeman, six half-sisters, Mrs. Lena Noack, Mrs. Mary Barton, Mrs. Clara White, Mrs. Anna Noack and Mrs. Amelia Simons, and three half-brothers, William Kottle, August Kottke and Fred Kottke.
