Troester, Arthur 1917-1962

Funeral services for Arthur LeRoy Troester, 45, were held Wednesday afternoon, July 18, at 2 o'clock at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran church with Rev. R.E. Langholz officiating. Burial was in the City cemetery with military rites at the grave conducted by Leslie H. Smith Post No. 519 of the American Legion. The body lay in state at the church from 1 o'clock in the afternoon until the time of the services.

Mr. Troester had not been very well for several years. He was taken to the Veterans' hospital in Iowa City, where he was a patient for about two weeks. He died there, Saturday, July 14.

He was born a son of George and Gertrude, nee Collins, Troester, March ... [missing date due to text repeating - transcribed exactly as in the original] ... tized at St. Paul Lutheran church in tized at St. Paul Lutheran church in Guttenberg and was also confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He received his education at Guttenberg.

In 1942 he entered the service of his country. He served with distinction in the South Pacific and Asiatic theatres, receiving four bronze stars for his service in the New Guinea, Papuan, Leyte, and Luzon campaigns. He was also awarded the Purple Heart, being wounded in New Guinea in November, 1942.

He was released from service in the armed forces in 1945 and farmed southwest of Monona since that time. He was a member of Leslie H. Smith Post No. 519 of the American Legion.

He was married to Miss Leona Rush at Rossville, June 21, 1958.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Allan; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Troester of Guttenberg; three sisters, Mrs. Tom (Emma) McDowell of Waukon, Mrs. Frank (Bernice) Walter of Colesburg, and Mrs. Carl (Nellie) Johanningmeier of Monona; and two brothers, Philip of Monona and Lester of Colesburg.

Music at the services was provided by Don Sabban, soloist. Mrs. R.L. Evans was the organist. Pallbearers were: George Keehner, Ccharles Wiedenmann Jr., Norbert, Julius and Lorin Dettmann; Willis Lamker, Vernice Moon, and Joe Rothmeyer.
