Died - At his residence in Monona township, February 19, 1880, Abel L. Nichols, aged 39 years, 10 months and 20 days.
The deceased was born in Essex county, New York, and with his parents came to this county in the fall of 1856. He was the youngest of three brothers, and a member of the Luana M.E. Church. By his death his wife loses a loving husband and his six children, the youngest of which was born on the evening of his death, a kind father.
Mr. Nichols is the first of a large family who has died, his parents being hale and hearty, while his brothers, Marvin and Andrew, are well to do farmers, and the sisters, Mrs. Pesis Turner and Mrs. Emeline Brodwell are residents of this county, another sister Mrs. Mary Ames residing in Buena Vista county.
Mr. Nichols was a man of excellent qualities, a good neighbor and a considerate husband and father. His afflicted family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in this their hour of distress.
The funeral occurred on Saturday, Feb. 21st, and the remains were followed to their last resting place in Pleasant Grove* cemetery by a large concourse of friends and neighbors.
