Clayton County Register, Thur., 3 Jan 1935.
J. F. Daubenberger, 72, president of the Daubenberger Lumber Co., of McGregor, died at his home Thursday. He had been in failing health for several years and had retired from taking an active part in the business. The business, started by Mr. Daubenberger's father, Vincent Daubenberger, in partnership with Peter Staur, in the rafting days of 80 years ago, is believed to be the oldest established lumber business in the northwest, west of the Mississippi river. For many years the company operated large sawmills at North McGregor and later at Prairie du Chien.
Mr. Daubenberger is survived by four sons, Vincent of Janesville, Wis.; Carol, Phillip and Keith, of McGregor; and two daughters, Mrs. Katherine Mackay of Detroit, Mich., and Helen of McGregor. He is also survived by one sister, Miss Gretchen Daubenberger, and one brother, W. F. Daubenberger, both of McGregor.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon.
