Otto W. Berns died Thursday, Dec. 1, after six months of heart ailment. He was born Dec. 30, 1892, in Volga township, the son of Peter and Clara Scheffert Berns.

He was married to Alma Lau of Klemme, Iowa, in the year 1915. Five children were born to them: James, on the home farm; (Marie) Mrs. D. C. O'Brien, Austin, Minn.; (Evelyn) Mrs. Don Meehan, Lamont; Jerome, Houston, Texas; (Avis) Mrs. W. F. Whitlock, Los Angeles, Calif.

Mr. Berns was a farmer and lived in this community all his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Surviving, besides his children, are his wife, Alma, 13 grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Joe Thein, Elkport, and Mrs. Leonard LaBarre, Clayton.

Funeral services were held Dec. 6, at Saint Michael's church. Interment was in Saint Michael's cemetery. The Rev. Loras Holmberg officiated. Pallbearers were: Reynold Scheffert, Earl Scheffert, Alvin Berns, Harold Berns, Gordon Connell and Earl Matt.
