Clayton County Register, Thur., 8 Dec. 1949.

John D. Meier was born the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Meier, June 3, 1867, in Giard township, a mile north of Froelich, where he spent the first year and a half of his life. Then the family moved to Farmersburg township where the permanent Meier home was established and where he lived the remainder of his life.

On March 24, 1896, he was married to Flora Schultz at Prairie du Chien, Wis. Eight children were born to them; one daughter, Blanch, preceded him in death.

All his life he was a faithful attendant at church activities, first with the Prairie Evangelical church and later at Monona, until his health no longer permitted. Besides this he was always interested in and took part in community affairs.

On March 24, 1946, Mr. and Mrs. Meier were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding at their farm home with all their children and many friends.

Mr. Meier was one of a family of four children. His three sisters and his parents preceded him in death.

He died at his home Saturday morning, Nov. 26, 1949, at 9:10 a.m. at the age of 82 years, five months and 23 days, after a lingering illness having been confined to his bed since January.

Surviving are his wife Flora; seven children, Willis, Esther and Milton, at home, Walter of Farmersburg, Alice (Mrs. Henry Comnick) and Hazel (Mrs. Thomas Jones) both of Monona, and Florence (Mrs. Frederick Becker of McGregor; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the home to Pilgrim Evangelical U.B. church at 1:30, with the Rev. A. W. Ebert officiating. Burial was in the Giard cemetery.
