Ira Clark Moore, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Jasper Moore, was born on a farm two miles North of Wadena March 12, 1889, and died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, at 7:10 p.m. Oct. 6, 1949, at the age of 60 years, six months and 24 days.

Mr. Moore was the fifth child in a family of six. He spent his youth in and around the Wadena community, acquiring his education in a local school and growing in spiritual life through activities in the church of his father's faith, the United Brethren.

On June 30, 1910, he was married to Nancy Ellen Yearous of West Union. To this union seven children were born.

The family lived on the home farm near Wadena for five or six years before moving to a farm about five miles northwest of Wadena. While living there he became rural mail carrier at Elgin.

In 1920 he purchased a farm near Volga. One year later he was appointed rural mail carrier for the community of Volga and fulfilled the duties of his position for 28 years.

The death of his wife occurred June 28, 1938. On August 2, 1940, he was married to Lucille Bartels of Castalia.

Ira was in comparatively good health until a month before his death. A recurrence of a former ailment caused his hospitalization at the Oelwein hospital on Friday, Sept. 30. On Tuesday, Oct. 4, he was moved to the Mercy hospital at Iowa City in order to receive special medical attention from Dr. N. G. Alcock, who was familiar with his case history.

Survivors are his wife Lucille of Volga; four sons, William and Ronald, Volga, Ira D. of Cedar Rapids, and J. S. of Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Bruns, George, Mrs. Rebecca Follon, Volga, and Mrs. Ethel Borden, Cedar Falls; two brothers, William, Wadena, and Myron, Fayette; two sisters, Mrs. Bert Sackett, Farmersburg, and Mrs. Robert Frey, West Union; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, with the Rev. Leslie J. Faris officiating. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga. Lawrence Hulverson, Ed Finley, Fred Orr, Don Leete, Ted Leete and Ray Leete served as casket bearers.
