Hardie Luther Rogers, World War I veteran, died Sunday at Des Moines, where he had been a patient at the Veterans' hospital for the past seven months.
Services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Blake and Gill chapel with burial in Hill Crest cemetery.
Hardie Luther Rogers was the son of Edward and Eva Moore Rogers and was born Jan. 4, 1893, at Randalia, Iowa. When a youth he moved to Volga with his parents, where he had resided and was in business until he was stricken ill.
He served in World War I and at the time of his death was a member of the Volga American Legion post, as well as of the Volga Business club and Masonic lodge.
He never married. His parents and two brothers, Thomas and Harold Rogers, preceded him in death.
Surviving are nieces and nephews: Mrs. Zella Lassiter, Waterloo; Seaman Edwin Rogers, Minneapolis; Charles Rogers, St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Lorraine Clear, Santa Rosa, Calif.; Will and Jack Rogers, Elkader; Also two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Clara Rogers, St. Louis, and Mrs. Eva Rogers, Elkader.
Services were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Blake and Gill chapel, with the Rev. Leslie J. Faris officiating.
Military rites at the graveside were conducted by the Volga Legion post. Casket bearers were World War I veterans Wm. Christeleit, Francis Cummings, Wm. Wenger, Reid Davis, Howard Taylor and Michael Martin.
