Funeral services for Bertha E. Folsom were held Tuesday, Oct. 30, 1979 at 11 a.m. at Community Presbyterian Church, Postville. The Reverend Dennis E. Morey and the Reverend Curtis Webster officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Bertha E. Folsom was born November 2, 1885 in Post Township, Allamakee county. She was one of eleven children born to John and Caroline (Harris) Hammel. She attended school at West Grove country school.

March 25, 1908 she was married to Lee B. Folsom. They purchased a farm in Grand Meadow Township and developed their homestead "Highland View Farm" so named because it was the highest point between McGregor and Postville.

Bertha moved to Postville in 1949. She was a resident of the Good Samaritan Center, Postville since January 1972.

Bertha enjoyed cooking and made many quilts which she shared with her relatives and friends. She was also active in study clubs and was a "fifty" year member of the Eastern Star. Bertha was an active member of the Community Presbyterian Church where she could usually be found in the kitchen.

She was preceded in death by her husband (1948); four brothers: Ralph, Charlie, Earl and Leonard, and three sisters: Stella (Mrs. Charlie Cook), Vernie (Mrs. Andrew Stockman) and Ruby (Mrs. Frank Lawson).

Bertha is survived by three sisters: Mrs. Gusta Lawson, Lansing; Mrs. Ruth Webster, Postville; and Mrs. Pearl McDonald, San Diego, California.
