Funeral services for William F. Walter, 82, lifelong resident of Clayton county, were held at the family residence in Elkader this afternoon (Thursday) at 1:30 o'clock and at the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was in the United Brethern cemetery in Wagner township.

Wm. F. Walter was born in Wagner township, Clayton county, Iowa, Nov. 18, 1866, the son of Michael and Louise Eggimann Walter, and died at his home in Elkader Monday, May 16, 1949, at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 27 days.

Mr. Walter was afflicted with a nerve ailment of the face for a number of years which caused him great suffering at times. His death, however, was due to pneumonia from which he became ill a week before his death.

Mr. Walter received his education in the rural schools near his home. On March 25, 1898, he was united in marriage with Miss Sophie Buckmann. The couple farmed two miles east of Gunder until 1931 when they retired and moved to Elkader. His wife preceded him in death May 19, 1942.

While living on the farm near Gunder Mr. Walter was a member of the United Brethern church of Wagner township. After taking up residence in Elkader he became a member of the Peace Evangelical church.

He is survived by two daughters and two sons, Mrs. John (Louise) Rugland, St. Olaf, Mrs. Ray (Ethel) Leete, Elkader, Glen Walter, Luana, and Karl Walter, Postville; four sisters, Mrs. Mel Henkes, Cresco, Miss Louise Walter, Farmersburg, Mrs. Verna Eno, Sheffield, and Mrs. Cora Krambeer, Postville; also eight grandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his wife were three brothers and one sister, Henry, Phillip, George and Mary Walter.

Honorary pallbearers were: Pete Peterson, Gunder Rugland, Mike Miller, August Schroeder, Fred Kurth, Wm. Monlux.

Pallbearers were: Oliver Eno, Orval Peterson, Fred Schroeder, Elmer Moser, Harold Biedermann, Milton Monlux.
