Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Casey, 84, were held at St. Joseph's church Wednesday morning, May 4, at 10 o'clock. The Very Rev. B. H. Skahill officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery.
Mrs. Casey died at Mercy hospital in Oelwein Sunday, May 1, of a stroke. She had been in failing health for several years.
Bertha Eliza Daniels was born in Sherberg, Germany, June 22, 1864, the daughter of Frederick and Bertha Goulich Daniels. She came to America when a young woman and settled at Omaha, Neb. In 1880 she moved to Clayton county and was later married to Bernard Casey. They moved to the farm in Cox Creek township in 1886. This has since been her home. Her husband preceded her in death in 1922.
She was a member of St. Joseph church in Elkader.
She is survived by four daughters and one son, namely: Mrs. Mary Clinton, Elkader; Mrs. H. W. Plath, Mason City, Iowa; Mrs. Louie Dahlstrom, Whitehall, Wis.; Mrs. Frank Smith, Arlington, and Ben at home.
Preceding her in death besides her husband was a son, Thomas, who died Sept. 5, 1926.
Pallbearers were: Henry Cords, Miles Scott, Lester Stahl, Gerald ______, Clarence Sturm, and Harold Ehrhardt.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: the Rev. D. R. Voels, Dyersville; Mrs. E. E. Voels, Dubuque; Mrs. Louie Dahlstrom, Whitehall, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Plath, Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hartwig, St. Ansgar, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Plath, Grafton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Plath, Mason City, Iowa.
