Funeral services for Joseph Winkler were held from the Witt Funeral chapel Friday afternoon at one thirty o'clock to the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church at two o'clock. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was in the East Side Cemetery.

Mr. Winkler died suddenly of a heart attack early Tuesday evening, Jan. 4, in the yard of his farm home, seven miles southwest of Elkader. He had suffered a heart attack about five years ago but regained comparatively good health until a few days before his death.

Joseph Winkler was born at Elkport, Iowa, May 12, 1893, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Winkler. He had reached the age of fifty-five years, seven months and twenty-two days.

He grew to manhood in Wood Center, Ia., where he also received his education in the Wood Center school. On June 25, 1918, he was united in marriage to Miss Alvina D. Elvers at the home of the bride's parents in Cox Creek township. The year following their marriage the young couple moved to the farm where he died and which had been their home for the past thirty years. In addition to his farming activities Mr. Winkler served as an officer with the Volga creamery, the Farm Bureau and various other public organizations. He was a member of Elkader Lodge No. 772, A.F. & A.M. and Charity Chapter No. 152 O.E.S. and the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church.

He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mr. Richard (Naomi) Harralson and a grandson Joseph Harralson, both of Great Lakes, Ill., also brother Charles Winkler, Elkader, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were: Milton Klink, Jesse Stephens, Geo. Behn, Rudolph Fascher, Wm. Ehrhardt and Alfred Baars.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were; Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Harralson and Joseph, Great Lakes, Ill.; V. A. Elvees, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Marion O'Connor and John Winkler, both of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wesselman, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Wesselman, Mrs. J. C. Iverson, and Wm. Klatt, all of Calmar.
