Early Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.L. McGonigle, occurred the death of Mrs. Harriet Barnes, at the advanced age of 87 years.
Funeral services were held yesterday at 11 o'clock. Rev. F.I. Stevens officiating, after which the remains were taken to Monona for burial.

On Monday morning, March 2d, 1896, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. L. McGonigle, of this place, after a short illness, occurred the death of Mrs. Harriett Churchill Barnes, at the advanced age of 87 years.
She was born in Herkimer county, New York, in 1809, and came to Monona, in this county, in 1863 where she has lived until with a few months when she came with her daughter to Elkader.
Two sons J. H. Barnes, of Monona, Milo W. Barnes, of Indiana, and three daughters, Mrs. Chas. L. McGonigle, of Elkader, Mrs. Silas Egbert, of Rock Rapids, and Mrs. Fannie Boardman, of Indiana, who survive her.
The funeral services were held at her late home Tuesday morning by the Rev. F. I. Stevens, and her remains taken to Monona for burial.

Notes: Her gravestone in the Monona City cemetery is engraved "H. Barnes", with no dates. She was w/o Isaac Barnes who died in 1885. See Isaac Barnes obit for more info.
