Fred W. Wistrick, the son of John and Wilhelmina nee Angelis Wistrick was born in Sangendorf Province, Hanover, Germany, on July 7, 1876, and died at his home in Elkader, Iowa, on September 1, 1957, at the age of 81 years, one month and 24 days.

Fred graduated from the public school in Germany in 1891. He came to the United States from Germany with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Behn. The first year here he started school and continued for four years. He lived with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Behn the first year and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Behn the second year after which he lived with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wistrick for 12 years.

On June 27, 1906, he was united in marriage to Kathrine Dohrer in the home of the bride in Cox Creek township by the late Rev. Leonhardt.

The couple farmed in Cox Creek township after their marriage until 1910 when they moved to Elkader where they have resided since.

On August 27, 1912, Fred accepted the position of janitor at the Elkader Public school which position he held for 42 years, retiring in 1954. It was the type of work he enjoyed. Not only the manual work but the association with the faculty members and students. His interest in all the activities of the school was very alert until about two years ago when his health began to fail. He received several citations for being one of the outstanding janitors of the state. He was regarded highly by all who came in contact with him.

Mr. Wistrick was a member of Peace Evangelical and Reformed church and the Elkader Masonic Lodge No. 72, A.F. & A.M.

He is survived by his wife, his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Wistrick of San Bruno, Calif., and two grandchildren, Bruce and Keith of San Bruno, Calif., one sister, Ida Wilbrandt Laasch, three nephews and a niece in Germany.

Masonic services were held Tuesday evening, Sept. 3, at the Witt's chapel and funeral services on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2 p.m. at Peace Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was at East Side cemetery.
