Elkader Register, Thur., 25 Sept. 1924.
Mrs. Anna Mickelson, a former resident of Clayton County, Iowa, passed away at the home of her son, Henry, at Canton, South Dakota, last Friday morning, September 19th, 1924, at the advanced age of 90 years, 3 months and 21 days.
She was born in Christiana, Norway, April 28th, 1834, and there spent her childhood days. She was united in marriage to Lars Mickelson in 1862. In the summer of 1875 she came with her family to this country and settled in St. Olaf, Iowa. After the death of her husband, which occurred in 1900, she made her home with her son, Henry and family, first at St. Olaf and later at Canton, N. D.
Mrs. Mickelson enjoyed good health and in spite of her advanced years she was always able to help herself until a few days ago, when she contracted a cold which turned into "pneumonia." Although receiving the best of care from loved ones, the time of her earthly pilgrimage came to a close last Friday morning.
She is survived by her son, Henry, who with one sister, Bertha Mickelson, mourn the loss of a good Christian mother. One son, Martin, preceded his mother in death in February, 1921. She also leaves six grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, other relatives and old time friends. Also one brother, Thomas Holmson, County, Minn.
Her earthly remains arrived at St. Olaf on Saturday afternoon and after short services in the Norway church, interment was made in Norway cemetery with Rev. C. H. Franke, of Elkader, officiating.
(Note: Canton is located in South Dakota.)
