Elkader Register, Thur., 28 Aug. 1924. Garnavillo column.

Mr. George Matt, son of Joseph and Theresa Matt, was born in Volga township, Jan. 5th, 1900, and died at the home of his mother in Garnavillo on Friday, August 8th, 1924. Most of his life was spent on the farm, though the latter years he lived with his mother here in town. He is survived by his mother, five sisters; Mrs. Howe of Chicago; Mrs. Fassbinder of Guttenberg; Mrs. Jos. Zapf of Volga township; Mrs. Bieringer of Maple River, Iowa; and Mrs. Ovel of Lamont, Iowa, two brothers, Albert and Alex of Volga township. The funeral was held here Monday, August 11th, with services at St. Joseph's Church, Rev. L. Raedler officiating. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery.

Note added by S. Ferrall 5/15/2020:

The DOB is incorrect in this obituary. Death Certificate DOB = 1/5/1860, s/o Joseph & Theresa. Gravestone = 1861-1924.
