Elkader Register, Thur., 10 July 1924.

James Maloney, 12-year-old grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Will Kramer of McGregor was drowned in the Mississippi river here about 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.

The youngster, with a number of other boys was swimming at the foot of Main street. He dove in behind an automobile ferryboat as the vessel left the McGregor dock and failed to return to the surface. His body had not been recovered at 3:00 o'clock.

The boy was the son of Mrs. Edith Maloney of Des Moines and had been spending the summer at McGregor with his grandparents.
