Mrs. William Muschewake, (nee, Eliza Ortman), died at the home of her son, L. C. Muschewake and family, at Guttenberg, Wednesday morning May 14, at 6:45 o'clock, at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 12 days. Mrs. Muschewake having suffered a long time with heart trouble.
She was born in Stolpe, near Neunstadt, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany, April 2, 1851, and attended school in the land of her birth. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of that church her life time.
Coming to America on August 3, 1878, she settled in Clayton County, and on September 7, 1879, she was united in marriage to William Muschewake at Elkader, Iowa. Her husband preceded her in death on May 21, 1897. After their marriage they lived at Elkport for two years, returning to Elkader, where she lived until August 1911, when she went to Guttenberg to make her home with her son, L. C. Muschewake and family.
She is survived by two sons, L. C. and H. J. Muschewake, both of Guttenberg; three grandchildren and other relatives and many friends who mourn the passing of this good woman. Two sons, August and Frederick, died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at St. John's Lutheran church at Guttenberg, Saturday, May 17th, at 1:00 p.m., after which services will be held at the East Side cemetery, at Elkader, at 3:00 p.m., Rev. Emil Lehne, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church of Guttenberg will conduct the services.
