Elkader Register, Thur., 12 June 1924. Strawberry Point column.
The remains of Mrs. Abram Treadwell of Chicago were brought here Saturday morning. Funeral services were held in the Congregational church Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. Maxwell and interment took place in the family lot in the local cemetery. She leaves four sons, Mark G. and Ray D. of Chicago, Lynn C. of Rockford, Ill., and Claire C. of Cedar Rapids, also three grandchildren to mourn her death.
On September 24th, 1865, at Strawberry Point, Miss Emily A. Lager was united in marriage to Abram Treadwell. They settled on a farm in Lodomillo twp. where they engaged in farming until the spring of 1896 when they retired from active farm life and removed to this city. Since the death of Mr. Treadwell, which occurred Jan. 19, 1915, she has made her home amongst the children. A few weeks ago while at her son, Ray in Chicago, she had the misfortune of breaking her hip. She was taken to one of the hospitals in Chicago and given the best of care but owing to her advanced age she gradually grew worse until death relieved her of her sufferings.
"You placed this flower in her hand, you say,
This pure, pale rose in her hands of Clay ?Methinks, could she lift her sealed eyes,
They would meet your own with a grieved surprised. When did you give her a flower before ?
Ah, well, what matter when all is o'er ?"
