Elkader Register, Thur., 27 Mar. 1924.
A telegram received by Mrs. W. A. Preston Saturday told of the death of Mrs. E. W. Adams, of Milwaukee, that morning at Hollywood, Cal., where Mr. and Mrs. Adams and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Cook were spending the winter. We have no further particulars. The funeral will be held at Milwaukee on Saturday.
Mrs. Adams was Miss Mattie Gilbert, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Gilbert, and she was born on a farm in Read township July 31st, 1858. She was married to E. W. Adams in 1883. They made their home here until 1898 when Mr. Adams accepted a position with the C. M. & St. Paul railway and they moved to Milwaukee. Mr. Adams received rapid advancement and in a few years he became secretary of that great railway system, a position which he held until a few months ago when he resigned to take a well earned rest. With Mrs. Adams's sister, Mrs. Marvin Cook and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Adams went to California for the winter.
Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband and one sister, Mrs. Marvin Cook. A son, Clarence, died when but a few years old, and a daughter, Blanche, was called from this life a few years ago after she reached the full bloom of young womanhood.
The many friends of the family here sorrow with the bereaved ones.
