Jacob Phillips Succumbs Monday: Heart Attack Fatal; Funeral Services Held from Church Wednesday

Jacob Phillips, sucessful business man and respected citizen, passed away Monday afternoon, following a sudden heart attack. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the Methodist Church.

Jacob F. Phillips was born in Buffalo Center, Nebraska, August 23, 1872. He was 60 years old.

Soon after his birth, his parents moved to Pleasant Ridge, near McGregor, Iowa. This community has always been his home.

He was united in marriage May 9, 1894, to Miss Elva S. Knapp, who passed away December 10, 1929. To them four children were born, all of whom are left to mourn. They are Marie, and Mrs. Ruth Brooks of McGregor, Mrs. Adena Baglin of Los Angeles, Cal., and Fred of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Jennie Keen of Grand Forks, N.D., and a brother Jess of Oregon and two grandchildren.

His life has been spent in the mercantile business for others and for himself. He clerked for local firms and was [a] traveling salesman for Schrader and Cline of Dubuque up until three or four years ago. Then he opened the store here in McGregor which he was running when he passed away. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Financial Secretary. In his home life, business and church he was always faithful, careful and painstaking. One always knew just where to find him, a man of strict integrity and honesty, kind and true.

Mr. Phillips' passing is a loss to the whole community and the bereaved family has the sympathy of all.

Note: burial in Pleasant Grove cemetery, McGregor
