On Wednesday morning, February 27, at five o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. J. Muschewske, at Guttenberg, occurred the death of Mrs. Louisa Pupke, at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 23 days.
Deceased was born in Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany, September 4, 1837, and came to America July 7, 1853, with her mother, brother, and sister, coming direct to Clayton County. For a number of years the family lived on a farm in Cox Creek township, later moving to Elkader.
She was united in marriage to Frederick Pupke at Garnavillo, December 20,1855. Her husband died at Elkader in September, 1903. In 1911 Mrs. Pupke moved to Guttenberg where she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. H. J. Muschewske, and there she spent the remainder of her life.
She is survived by the following children: Mrs. H. J. Muschewske, Guttenberg, Iowa; Mrs. Seymour Latteyer, of Read township; Mr. Frank Jackson, Deer Lodge, Mont.; Mrs. Emma Peick, Dubuque, Iowa; Mrs. Wm. Hemilton (Could be Hamilton.), St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Ida Mattson, Fort Madison, Iowa; Gustave Pupke, Dubuque, Iowa; and Fred Pupke, of Chicago. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at the H. J. Muchewske home at Guttenberg early Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. Emil Lehne, of St. John's Lutheran Church. The body will arrive here Saturday forenoon and funeral services will be held at Evangelical Friedens Church Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., Rev. C. H. Franke will officiate. Burial will be made in the East Side cemetery.
