Almeda Ferguson, known as "Grandma Buck", was born near Rutland, Vt. Aug. 14, 1809. She moved with her father's family to Niagara Co., N.Y. and during this move, their team was broken by the Government, taking one of their horses for use in the army of the war of 1812.
She was married to Lyman Buck in 1829. They then moved west to Madison, Wis., in 1852, came to McGregor in 1857, where she joined the M.E. church and lived a faithful and consistent member for over forty years.
She was the mother of five children, one girl and four boys. She had two boys in the army of the sixties, one of them dying in the hospital at New Orleans.
She professed conversion under the ministry of Evangelist Burchard, of Lockfront, N.Y. She lived with her son, O.C. Buck, where she had the tenderest care.
Last Monday morning, Mar. 14th, she quietly fell asleep to awake no more in this world. A kind, patient, and loving mother is gone.
