Suicide At Volga.

Clara Rowell, the eighteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rowell, of Volga City, committed suicide yesterday morning in the High School Building at that place.

Miss Rowell had left her home about 7:15 a.m. going to the school house to do the dusting and cleaning before school was called.

When it was time to call school it was noticed that a part of the bell rope had been cut and upon investigation it was found that the unfortunate girl was hanging from the rope tied to a heating pipe.

No motive is known for her act at this time.

Elkader Register, Thur., 14 Feb. 1924. Volga City Views column.

Volga City was shocked Wednesday morning when word came that Miss Clara Rowell had taken her own life in the domestic science room at the schoolhouse. Clara was a lovely girl and well liked by everyone. She was always pleasant, and greeted all with a smile. It has cast a gloom over the town that one so young would take her own life. The sorrowing ones have the sympathy of all.

Clara Frances Rowell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Rowell, was born in Volga, Iowa, May 18, 1906, an has spent her life in this vicinity. She was educated in the public schools where she was loved by her school mates. She attended the Methodist Sunday school and church. At the time of her death she was seventeen years, five months and nineteen days of age.

She leaves to mourn her loss her father and mother; brothers and sisters, Mervin, of Nyack, N.Y.; Lyle, of Littleport, Ia.; Willis and Mrs. Ray Hall, of Strawberry Point; Mrs. George Boehm, of Greeley, Iowa; Richard, Theodore, Forest and Inid, of Volga.

She will be sadly missed. Funeral services were held Sunday at 11 o'clock in the Methodist church, Rev. H. A. Crumb officiated. Interment in Hill Crest cemetery.

The floral offerings were very beautiful and the large crowd in attendance showed the esteem in which Clara was held.
