Relatives here received word of the death of Mrs. Thalia Rhoads, at her home in Denver, Colo., on December 25, 1923, following a years illness.
She was a daughter of Thomas Champlain Palmer and Ruthalia (Phinney) Palmer and was born in the state of Ohio in 1843. On November 10, 1865, she was united in marriage with Al_nzo G. Rhoads at Elkader, Iowa.
They moved to Colorado in 1868 and established a cracker and bakery shop at Black Hawk, near Central City, and in 1879 they moved to Denver, where they engaged in business.
Mr. Rhoads died at Denver in September 1906. Preceding her in death are her mother, Mrs. Ruthalia Palmer, who died in 1880, and her father, Thomas Champlain Palmer, who died in March 1904. Two sisters, Mrs. Laura Knapp died August 8, 1878, and Mrs. Lucy Southworth in January 1916. One brother, William Tyler Palmer of Edgewood, Iowa.
Mrs. Rhoads was a cousin of Mrs. R. E. Price, of this place, and a cousin of the late Mrs. A. M. Wing.
Mrs. Rhoads was active in club and political circles for many years in her state. She was a former superintendent of schools of old Arapahoe county, Colorado, at the time that county extended to the Kansas border; for a number of years she was vice-chairman of the Republican state central committee.
Her parents, Thomas Champlain Palmer and wife, were among the early settlers of Clayton county, coming here in 1853, and settled on a farm at what was afterwards known as High Prairie, near Elkader.
Funeral services for Mrs. Rhoads were held at Denver and she was laid to rest by the side of her husband.
