Elkader Register, Thur., 3 Jan. 1924. Local News column.

Thomas Farrell died in Elkader December 27, 1923, at 5:30 a.m. He was born in Read twp. December 5, 1868.

Some time last year he had an accident being thrown from the wagon, when his team ran away and at that time received injuries from which he never fully recovered: this together with high blood pressure resulted in his death.

March 4, 1883, he moved with his parents to Boardman twp.

Thomas being one of the eldest was the first to help his parents. He remained with them until his younger brothers could take his place. He then started out to make his own living.

In the year 1890 he bought a farm 1 mile north of Monona and farmed it four years. Then he sold it and returned to Elkader and worked in this vicinity for some time.

About twenty years ago he went to Carroll, Iowa, and remained there until three years ago when he returned home.

For the last two years he worked for Contractor Mr. John Stoops, for whom he worked faithfully.

His father and mother preceded him in death. He is survived by four brothers, James, Frank, Edward and John of Evening, Ark. Three sisters, Julia, Mrs. Mary Ecker, of West Union, Mrs. Estella Eager of Mitchell, S. Dakota.

Deceased was a man of excellent character, generous and kindhearted, and honest in all his dealings. He was of a kind disposition always ready to help anyone in need. From boyhood he was a faithful Catholic and his life is proof of his earnest devotion, as he lived, he died true to his faith.

The funeral was held from St. Joseph's church last Saturday, conducted by Rev. Father Taken who spoke words of praise and esteem and was very largely attended by old neighbors and friends who came from far and near to pay a last tribute of respect. May his Soul rest in peace. Amen.

The pall bearers were Joe Cain, Francis Wareham, Peter Feeney, Nicholas Finnegan, John Toutsch, James Sullivan.
