Funeral services were held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories for Donald Wayne Barker, age 70, of Waterloo, Iowa who died on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the Unity Point Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Burial for Mr. Barker was in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa.

Donald Wayne Barker was born on October 23, 1946 in Volga, Iowa, son of Donald Leroy and Sylvia (Wheeler) Barker. He graduated from the Oelwein High School, Oelwein, Iowa in 1966. Don attended Emporia Teachers College in Kansas where he studied teaching and coaching. He was on the college wrestling team. He married June Wilson on September 9, 1967 at the Christian Church in Greensburg, Kansas. He was a police officer for the Oelwein Police Department and then worked with the Waterloo Police Department from 1969 until his retirement in 1990. He also started Cobra Investigations and had the business for over 10 years. Donald was a black belt in karate and taught karate in his martial arts studio. He enjoyed shooting guns, camping, going to coffee with his friends and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He was the oldest of 13 children in a family of 14 children. He loved being a big brother.

Donald Wayne Barker was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jeffery Barker in infancy and Timothy Barker, and a sister, Patricia Wagner.

Donald is survived by his wife; two daughters, Kim (Jammie) Howard of Buckingham, Iowa and Christie (Brett) Sapp of Waterloo, Iowa; six grandchildren: Taylor (Mary) and Madison Howard and Brittani, Lexi, Jordyn, and Caysie Sapp; two great-grandchildren, Eva and Demi Sapp. His 10 siblings: Kenneth (Lorna) Barker of Oelwein, Iowa, Monte (Sue) Barker of Hazleton, David (Annette) Barker, Judith Barker, and Pam (Todd) Walters, all of Oelwein, Bryan (Sherry) Barker of Nevada, Iowa, Bruce (Debbie) Barker of Gypsum, Colorado, Hal (Joelyn) Barker of Oelwein, Bobbi (Sherrie) Barker of Canton, Georgia and Cindy (Alan Young) Walters of Waterloo in addition to numerous relatives and friends, especially Craig Schmidt.
