Elkader Register, Thur., 8 Nov. 1906.

John Lawrence Boland was born in Massachusetts May 6th, 1851. He came to Iowa with his parents in 1861 and lived in highland township until he was murdered Nov. 5th, 1906. In 1878 he married Jane Orr, who died about four years ago. He leaves six children, John J., at Humbolt, Ia.; James, at Bonair; and William, Clement, Frederick and Agnes at home. He has three brothers, James P., Thomas A. and Christopher M., who live in Highland twp.

Deceased was a quiet peaceable citizen, respected for his many good qualities. He had his faults like all of us, but, nevertheless he was a good man. All regret the manner of his untimely death.

The funeral was held Wednesday morning at St. Joseph's church, Rev. J. F. Reilly officiating. May the Lord have mercy upon him.
