Friday, 1 February 1899, Guttenberg Press, Obituary, p5, c3:
MRS. MARGARETA WALKE.
The subject of this sketch was born in Cincinanti, Ohio, September 24, 1845, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Schroeder, of this city. She came to this county in 1855 with her parents. She was married to Herman Walke October 2, 1863. There were born to Mr. and Mrs. Walke eight children, two of whom died while young. Six children are still living, three boys and three girls. Three of the children have married; they are Herman Walke, Jr., Mrs. H. B. Schuette and Mrs. Frank Saeugling. Mrs. Walke died at Postville on Thursday, January 26th, 1899. The remains were brought here Saturday evening and taken to the home of her aged parents for a last sad view, they being too ill to attend the funeral services. The remains were then taken to the home of H. B. Schuette where they remained until Sunday noon when Rev. Janzig held funeral services and the funeral cortege started for the Ceres cemetery where Rev. Otto Gammelin also held services and the remains consigned to their final resting place. Mrs. Walke leaves several brothers and sisters, they are: Mrs. Sophia Krueger, of South Dakota, John Schroeder, of Monona, Rudolph Schroeder of Garnavillo, Fred Schroeder of Postville, George Schroeder, of South Dakota, Herman Schroeder, Louis Schroeder, Mrs. Wm. Borcherding, Jr., and August Schroeder of this city and Eddie Schroeder, of Lime Springs, Iowa, besides her husband and children and her aged parents besides a large circle of sorrowing friends to mourn her death.
Short was her stay,
But long to rest;
God called her home
When he thought best.
