Elkader Register, Thur., 23 Aug. 1906.

Mrs. Lucille Barnes Egloff was born in Monona, Nov. 4th, 1879, died at the home of her parents in Mason City, Aug. 7th, 1906, aged 27 years, 8 months and 14 days. Two weeks previous to her death she was united in marriage to Dr. George Egloff, a physician employed in one of the Chicago hospitals, a week following she returned home for a visit. For several years she had been a sufferer from a diabetis malady, and though every effort was made to stay the ravages of the disease it proved to be of no avail. For two years under medical treatment, all the time knowing the inevitable end to be reached, yet with patience she passed through the ordeal with cheerfulness remarkable to a great degree. The remains were brought to this city on Thursday, accompanied by the family and husband. Brief services were held in the Congregational church, Rev. Cheney officiating. Burial in Monona cemetery by the side of a sister who preceded her to the grave a number of years. It seems like a cruel stroke that one just in the bloom of womanhood, and ere the wedding chimes have ceased to tole should be stricken down in the embrace of death, yet when scientific skill exercises its full powers and fails to reach the core of the malady and the patient and her immediate relatives become aware of the impending results the passing into the beyond is largely relieved of its severity. God willed that it be as it has been, and the sufferer of years rests in peaceful slumber in God's own acreage, free from pain and intense suffering. Mrs. Egloff was a lady of pleasing grace. She is remembered here in Monona in her younger days, in the public school, and in social circles. Occasionally she would visit the old home friends, and always wore a cheerful and a apparently happy countenance. Her death is sincerely regretted by many personal friends in this vicinity. To the bereaved family is extended the sympathy of the community.
