Henry F. Schutte Passes Away
On last Monday morning, October 10, 1921, at four o’clock at his home in this city occurred the death of Henry Fritz Schutte, after an illness of long duration, and at the age of 60 years, 4 months and 9 days. Deceased had been in poor health for some time, and on February 15, 1921, he submitted to an operation, and on May 25, 1921, he was compelled to undergo another operation. All that medical knowledge could suggest and loving hands could do was done for him to ward off death, but all to no avail. He was a patient sufferer and had hopes for recovery until the Angel of Death called him to the Great Beyond, where there is no more suffering, but joy and happiness forever. For a time it was thought he would regain his health again, but a few days ago he became seriously ill again, and passed away last Monday morning.
Mr. Schutte was born in Volga township, Clayton County, Iowa, on June 1, 1861, and spent his entire life in this county. On November 12, 1886, he was married at Garnavillo, Iowa, to Miss Wilhelmina Fehlhafer. For a number of years he was successfully engaged in farming in Jefferson township, coming to Guttenberg, Iowa, on October 23, 1913, with his family to reside, where he lived until his death. He was an industrious man and possessed a quiet and kindly disposition and had a large circle of friends who regret his departure from the activities of this life. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, two sons, Julius, of Fredericksburg, Iowa, and Elmer, of Jefferson township; three daughters, Mrs. Gusta Block, of Rathsey, Minn., Mrs. Emilie Rodas, of Garnavillo township, and Mrs. Malinda Schaub, of Fredericksburg, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren, one brother, Wm. Schutte, of McCracken, Kan.; three sisters, Mrs. Gerhard Niemann, of Guttenberg, Mrs. Henry Harting, of Edmund, Kan., and Mrs. C. Lange, of Elk River, Minn., and many other relatives and friends by whom he will be sadly missed. Mr. Schutte was a man who was held in high regard by all in this community.
Funeral services will be held at the Schutte home in this city this (Thursday) afternoon at two o’clock. Interment will be made in the City Cemetery. Rev. Wm. Braun, of Garnavillo, will conduct the funeral services.
