Elkader Register, Thur., 2 Aug. 1906. Garnavillo column.

Margaret Georgina Wilhelmina Koop was born Dec. 6, 1826 in Hanover. At the age of nine she emigrated with her parents to this country and took up abode in New Bremen, Ohio. On the 22nd of May, 1846, she was united in marriage with Cord Heinrich Tangeman at New Bremen. Ten years later they moved onto a farm now owned by their son Edward in Read township. In October, 18_2, they retired from active life and came to Garnavillo. But soon this domestic quietude and happiness was destroyed by the death of the husband, July 21, 1891. Other clouds began to appear, among them, the loss of the home by fire and later bodily injuries, causing grief and worry with advanced age, to slowly wear out the existence of the sad and sorrowing wife. Her last illness was severe and lingering, but finally on the 23rd of July she was granted the rest and peace of the blessed. Funeral services took place Wednesday, the 25th, and were conducted by Rev. K. Wm. Braun, in St. Paul's Lutheran church. They were very largely attended. The floral offerings are worthy of mention for they were many and very beautiful. Interment occurred in the family lot in the new cemetery.

The following children survive to hold in tender keeping the sacred memories of "Mother", so kind, so gentle, so true: Julius and William, both residing in Garnavillo; Amelia, married to Henry Limbach, of Garnavillo; Mahala, married to Fred Schmidt, with whom deceased made her home; August and Edward, of Read twp.; Benjamin, of Garnavillo twp.; and Henry, residing at Louisville, Neb. Thirty grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. A daughter, Anna, died in New Bremen, Oct. 22, 1853, and another, Georgine, at Garnavillo on the 8th of June, 18_1 (looks like 1861). Two months ago her aged brother, Ludwig, preceded her in death at New Bremen.
