Elkader Register, Thur. 1 Nov. 1900. Garnavillo column.
Last Sunday morning at 8 o'clock, occurred the death of Zilah Crosby. The deceased was born May 17th, 1819, in Little Valley, N.Y. In 18_2 (looks like 1852) she was married to Nathan Crosby, which union was blessed with one child, H. B. Some time after her husband died and in 1888, she with her son and his wife came here from Hillsdale, Mich., to take up her abode. Five years ago she was taken quite sick and since then has been in very feeble condition but was well cared for and comforted till her eyes closed in perfect rest. Rev. Kellett conducted the funeral services which took place Monday at the late home at 4 p.m., and at the cemetery at about sundown - it being the request of the deceased to be buried at the close of day. Her son and two step children, James O. O. Crosby and Mrs. Brown, besides other relatives and friends survive to mourn her loss.
Behold the pilgrim as she lies,
With glory in her view.
To Heaven she lifts her longing eyes,
And bids the world adieu.
