Theodore Lau, who had been gradually failing in strength for some time, died in the hospital at Independence on the 3rd of May, at 1:30 a.m. He was there about seventeen months. He was born in Germany Oct. 30th, 18_2 (looks like 1842), and came to America in 1869. In 1877 he was united in marriage to Mina Helm. To them were born five children, one of whom died in infancy. He is survived by the wife and the following children: Mrs. Wm. Kuehl and Mrs. Chas. Kuehl, at Elkport; and Carrie and George at home. He also leaves a brother in Moline, Ill. He was a mason by trade. He was a kind husband and father, honest and upright in all his dealings. The funeral was held Saturday, May 5th, in the Methodist church at Elkader, Rev. F. Leonhard, of Elkader, officiating.
