Nora Rosalie Wirkler Jenkins
Nora Rosalie Wirkler Jenkins died Friday, Jan. 3, 1992, at the Postville Good Samaritan Center, where she had lived since March 23, 1984.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1992, at Schultz's Funeral Home in Monona. The Rev. Terry Hudson officiated.
Pallbearers were Milton Schierholz, Irving Schierholz, Page Wirkler, Donald Wirkler, Robert Wirkler, and Richard Stoehr. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of services.
Nora Jenkins was born Aug. 24, 1904, to Edward William and Mary Katherine Abel Wirkler. Her father died four months before her birth. She was baptized Sept. 20, 1904, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith Sept. 5, 1920.
She attended Monona Public School and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.
On Aug. 19, 1925, she married Foster D. Jenkins of Monona at the home of Edward and Carrie Wirkler. The couple moved to Grand Junction, CO, and then to Pasadena, CA, where they spent most of their married years. Nora was employed by the Hillcrest Dairy Bar and worked as a clerk in a variety store.
Nora returned to Monona following her husband's death. She resided at the Sophia Lange and Charlotte Melcher homes until moving into her own apartment.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Foster, who died April 12, 1970; five brothers, Arthur, Orville, Bernhardt, Eldo, and Edward; seven sisters, Alma (Mrs. William) Miller, Lovina (Mrs. George) Bothel, Amanda (Mrs. Elzer) Schierholz, Adele (Mrs. William) Wiethorn, Esther (Mrs. Harvey) Stoehr, Mahalia (Mrs. Joe) Lambert, and Marie (Mrs. James) Skilling.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Carrie Wirkler of Richard Center, WI, and 14 nieces and nephews.
