Elkader Register, Thur., 22 Mar. 1906. Elkport and Vicinity column.
Drs. White & Miller, of Elkader, performed a surgical operation on Wm. Brookshier, Friday, as a last resort to save his life, but he passed away the following day.
Wm. Brookshier, one of our most highly respected and leading farmers, died Saturday, March 17th, about 4:00 p.m. after a lingering illness of several months. Mr. Brookshire was still a young man being only 41 years old, which makes his death all the more sad. He leaves a wife and one son about eighteen years old, besides an aged father and sister to mourn his untimely death. He was buried Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., funeral services being conducted by the Odd Fellows. It was one of the largest funerals ever held in this community.
