William L. Jones was born in Champlain County, Ohio, Apr 15th, 1837. Died at his home in McGregor, Iowa, March 9th, 1906.

Deceased came to Iowa in 1855, and inlisted [sic] in the 3rd Iowa Infantry, Company C, June 5, 1861, and was honorably discharged Feb. 19th, 1862.

March 29th, 1862, he was united in marriage with Sarah A. Golder. To this union were born seven children, two dying in infancy. He is survived by his widow, daughter, Mrs. Ella Sweet, Park Rapids, Minn.; and sons of this place, Lou R., Will E., Jerome and Ben T. Jones.

Mr. Jones has made McGregor his residence for over a quarter of a century and had the respect of all. He served as constable for several terms, and was in office when taken with his last illness. His sufferings the eight months he was confined to his chair and bed were terrible, but he had Christian fortitude and strength to suffer uncomplainingly. He was ever a good neighbor, kind and loving husband and father, and the TIMES expresses the universal sympathy felt for his bereaved family.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, Rev. V.E. Hall officiating.
