William Walter, after a lingering illness, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 1906, at his home on the farm in Jefferson township four miles southwest of here, aged 42 years, 3 months and 18 days. Deceased was born Sept. 29, 1863, in Prussia, Germany, Province Saxony, and when he was four years of age his parents emigrated to this country, settling at Guttenberg the same year, 1867. January 7, 1896, he was united in marriage to Augusta Diedrich. Four children were born to them, one son and three daughters, each of whom in its tender years can not appreciate the meaning of death, but they realize the loss of a kind father, nevertheless Mr. Walter was a man held in high esteem by all with whom he came in contact, and his untimely demise is regretted. Surviving relatives of deceased, besides his wife and children, are one brother, Christian Walter, and one sister, Mrs. Charles Backes, residents of Jefferson township. Another sister, Mrs. Aug. Dannebring, resides in Sioux county. Funeral services were held from the Lutheran church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Janzig. Interment was made in the City cemetery.
