On Tuesday, Sept. 23rd, the death of Jerry Feeney occurred at his home in Highland township, at the age of eighty-six, following an illness of several weeks. He had been gradually failing for several years and troubles incident to his advanced age were the main cause of his death.

Jerry Feeney was born in County Galway, Ireland, in 1827. When he was about twenty years of age his mother, with her six children of whom Jerry was the oldest, came to this country, the father having died previously. The first located in New Jersey, where the subject of this sketch grew to manhood and where in 1850 he was married to Miss Catharine Hawley.

In 1857 they came to this county, living first in Volga City. In 1865 they moved to the farm in Highland township, which has been Mr. Feeney's home for so many years and where he finally passed away. His faithful wife died about thirty years ago.

Seven children were born to them, five of who are still living and were able to be present at the funeral of their beloved father. They are Mrs. T.F. Keleher, of Elkader; John, living on the home farm; Peter, of Boardman township; Mrs. Ed. Looby and Michael Feeney, of Chicago. Twenty-six grandchildren and one great grand-child also survive.

The funeral services were held this morning in St. Joseph's church at this place, Rev. Father Hetherington, of Volga, officiating, and were largely attended. The pall bearers were J.K. Molumby, P.J. Cain, M. Hurley,, Frank Keleher, Frank Liddy and Andrew Cassidy. Interment was in St. Joseph's cemetery.

Mr. Feeney's memory will be held sacred not only by his relatives, but by a large circle of friends and neighbors, who throughout the years have learned to know the kindliness and integrity of his character. In early life as the oldest of a family of six fatherless children he was required to largely assist his mother in their support and throughout his life he proved himself a dutiful son and brother, a kind and loving husband and father, a faithful friend and neighbor and an honest, upright and industrious citizen.
