Elkader Register, Fri., 1 Feb. 1884. Home News column.

John Tryon, a brakeman on Conductor Patterson's train, was killed Friday morning at 1 o'clock at North McGregor. The particulars of the sad affair are as follows: He was in the act of stepping in between two cars for the purpose of coupling them when, it is supposed, his foot got caught in a frog, from which he could not extricate it before the cars had knocked him down and run over him. He was dragged fifty feet, both legs and one arm being cut off, and the body otherwise horribly mutilated.
