Dubuque Telegraph Herald & Times Journal, 15 Feb. 1935.

Guttenberg- Funeral services for William Piehl, 71, lifelong resident of Clayton county, who died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Herman Walke, Thursday morning at 10 o'clock following a lingering illness, will be held Saturday afternoon at the Lutheran church at Littleport with the Rev. F. E. Damm officiating. Burial will be in the Littleport cemetery.

Mr. Piehl was born on a farm in Volga township, May 31, 1861. For a number of years he lived on a farm near Littleport, while for the past 25 years he had made his home with his niece, Mrs. Walke in Jefferson township. He also worked at the carpenter's trade for a time.

He is survived by one brother, Charles of Littleport, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Note: Birth year, newspaper date and given age at death do not add up in this obit.

Another death notice in the same paper & issue gives his birth as: "On a farm in Volga township, Clayton county, on 31 May, 1863"
