Funeral services for Henry Hamlett, former Strawberry Point resident who died in Elkader lst Wednesday were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader Saturday morning, March 29, 1952, at ten o'clock. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. B.H. Skahill officiated at the Requium High Mass. Burial was in St. Josephs Cemetery.
Mr Hamlett suffered from an incurable rare disease call Syringa Myelia which being a progressive disease lasted over a period of over seven years confining him to his home for over five years, first to a wheel chair then to a bed for three years.
He died at 11:15 p.m. March 26, at the age of 46 years, 10 months and 8 days.
Henry Horace Hamlett was born at Mills, Nebraska, May 18, 1905 and when a small child came with his parents to Strawberry Point, Iowa where he lived until 1935 at which time he moved to a farm near Elkader. In 1945 he moved to his present home in Elkader, Iowa.
On February 12, 1922, he was united in marriage to Miss Johanna Wach of Elkader. He is survived by his wife and five daughters, Mrs. Charles (Irene) Crane of Elkader, Iowa; Mrs. Delbert (Marian) Patzer, Rochelle, Illinois; Mrs. Willard ( Ellen ) Mueller, Monona, Iowa and Ruth Ann and Linda Louise at home.
Also 3 grandsons and 2 granddaughters; a mother Mrs. Martha Hamlett of Strawberry Point; 2 brothers, Dave of Strawberry Point and Vincent of Sumner, Iowa and three sisters, Mrs Gladys Kenneally, Mrs Clyde Miersen and Mrs Bariton Solo. His father and one brother and one grandson preceded him in death. Pall bearers were: Evert Neal, Clarence Woods, Edward Burlingame Jr, Orville Sullivan, John Tarrell and Leo Boland.
