RAILROADMAN DIED TRYING TO LIFT CAR
Warren Moser, 62, of Guttenberg, died of an apparent heart attack Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 2) while attempting to put a derailed motor car back onto the tracks three miles south of Dubuque near the MarJo Quarry.
Moser, a rail inspector for the Milwaukee Road, radioed the dispatcher about 1 p.m. and asked him to send several men to help him move a rock that was laying alongside the track.
He then drove the motor car through a "closed switch," which derailed it. His footprints were visible where he walked around the car.
Dubuque County Sheriff's Deputies Floyd Berendes and Milton "Chappy" Chapman investigated the incident.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Tuecke Funeral Home in Guttenberg.
Moser was a veteran of World War II.
Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery at Osterdock. Friends may call after 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Surviving are his widow, Ivanelle; a brother, Elmer of Guttenberg; three sisters, Mrs. Fannie Kohler of Dubuque, Mrs. Jennie Volquardts of Hanover, IL, and Mrs. Anna Elledge of the state of Washington.
