Elkader Register, Thur., 16 July 1903.

A letter from V. F. Davis to H. H. Barnard says that Mrs. Julia Boardman, widow of Capt. Elisha Boardman, of Co. D. 21st Iowa, died on the (Looks like 8th or 9th) inst., at the hospital in Winona, Minn. Mrs. Boardman had been a great sufferer for the past six months, we believe from a cancer.

Her remains were taken to Pickwick, Minn., for burial on the 10th. She had always expressed a desire to be buried in the cemetery at Elkader, and at her last visit had made partial arrangements to that end. She has a grand-daughter residing at Pickwick with whom she made her home, and it may be that the matter of expense had something to do with the change. Mr. Davis in his letter intimates that this may be done later.

Mrs. Boardman had many warm friends here at her old home, especially among the old soldiers, and the members of old Co. D. All regret her departure, but are relieved that she has escaped from her suffering.
