Shirley Meyer, Monona, Iowa, June 23, 2015

Shirley Meyer, 79, of Monona, Iowa died Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Crossing Rivers Health Center, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. She was born on July 31, 1935 to Donald F. and Anna C. (Lechnir) Montgomery in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Shirley was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monona, Iowa. She attended St. Patrick Parochial School and graduated from Monona High School in 1953.

Shirley was united in marriage with Frederick H. Meyer on May 20, 1961 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monona, Iowa. One son, Mark, was born to this union.

In her younger years, she worked at Gordon’s Bakery. Shirley also worked for Postville Turkey Products, Advanced Transformer, Wilke’s Deli, was a cook at many local establishments and she also owned and operated a lunch wagon. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, baking and refinishing furniture.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Frederick H. Meyer of Monona; one son, Mark Meyer of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brothers, Thomas Montgomery of Atlanta, Georgia and Jym Montgomery of Monona, Iowa and sisters, Norma (Dick) Asleson of Monona, Iowa and Marilyn Thompson of Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Montgomery Jr. and a brother-in-law, Clarence Thompson.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June, 25, 2015 from 4-7 pm with a 7:00 pm Rosary at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before Mass at the church on Friday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, June 26, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. Daniel Knipper as the Celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
